Károly Kós Church Re-consecrated

English

The church was built based on the plans of the then young Transylvanian architect between 1906 and 1910, a decade after the small town had become a popular resort for city-dwellers in Budapest.

Kós is well known for his distinctive style, which was influenced by art nouveau, and designed many landmark buildings in Hungary and Romania. He designed several churches, but all were Reformed, expect for the one in Zebegény, which is Catholic.

As the church neared completion, funding dried up and plans for interior decorations were scrapped. A hundred years later, the church has been renovated and decorated, based on Kós?s original plans, thanks to donations collected by the Károly Kós Church Foundation.

The church will be re-consecrated at a mass on Sunday.
