The Belenus Quartet of Switzerland received a 6,000 euro purse.
The contest?s jury -- András Keller, Valentin Erben, Arvid Engegard, Gerhard Schulz, Stephan Goerner, Johannes Meissel, Georges Zeisel and Ferenc Rados ? decided against awarding a first prize.
The Benyounes Quartet was also recognised for their performance of a composition by Péter Tornyai that was commissioned for the contest, and they were awarded a special prize by the ProQuartet Society.
The UK?s Catabile String Quartet was recognised for the best performance of a composition by László Lajtha.
Hungary?s Accord Quartet won an invitation from the Károlyi Foundation to play a concert in Paris.
Sándor Végh, a Hungarian violinist, chamber musician and conductor who enjoyed a global profile, was born a century ago.
