King's Spring Renovated

English

The chapel-like structure that houses the spring was refurbished and a fresco on the wall depicting Saint Martin tearing his mantle to give to a beggar was restored. The project was approved by Cultural Heritage Protection Office and was supported by a number of private sponsors.

The spring was discovered when King Béla IV thrust his sword into the ground while resting in a valley near the Pannonhalma Abbey during his flight from the Tartars in 1241. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the spring attracted many pilgrims as its water was thought to have special healing qualities. The well is the symbol of the town of Ravazd.
