The Klezmatics build their music on the foundations of Eastern European Jewish tradition, but they are also inspired by the patchwork culture of the world metropolis New York, including in their work pop, jazz and Balkan motifs. Sometimes they are romantic pacifists, playing as if they just came from a hippie commune. Other times their music is harsh and raw, like a call to a street war. Fire and water go well together in this group formed in 1986. From the ancient spirit of tradition, they bring forth a multicultural paradise for the future.
At the Millenáris, the band played songs with elements of Yiddish folk music, as well as salsa, jazz and African music. They performed several numbers off their Grammy-winning album Wonder Wheel from 2006 as well as their latest album Woody Guthrie's Happy Joyous Hanukkah.
