Kölcsey Centre Celebrates First Year

The anniversary programme kicked off Thursday evening with an opera gala featuring performances of excerpts from works by Rossini, Mozart, Donizetti, Verdi, Puccini, Bizet, and Kodály.

 
On Friday, the centre hosted a carnival ball, and on Saturday it will host a show by the fashion designer Tamás Náray. The series of events will conclude on Sunday with a day of storytelling.
 
The Kölcsey Centre has organised more than 290 events which attracted 170,000 visitors since it opened a year ago.
 
Performers at the centre have included Jan Garbarek, Chick Corea, András Schiff, Andrea Rost, Gergely Bogányi, Béla Szakcsi Lakatos, Miklós Vámos, Judit Halász, Yvette Bozsik, Xavér Varnus and Zsuzsa Koncz. The centre has also hosted exhibitions by János Lestyán Goda, Sándor Győrfi, János Kass, Endre Szász, Árpád Bényi and Tamás Potyok. It is currently showing an exhibition of photographs taken by staff at the Hungarian News Agency over the past 50 years.
