The company, directed by Árpád Schilling, has performed ?W-Workers? Circus? more than 100 times, but the piece will be retired from its repertoire after the performances at the May Day weekend.
On their website, the Krétakör call ?W-Workers? Circus? an ?experiment: we tested the limits of ourselves and our acting tools, we tried to discover new means of theatrical expression, theatrical language. Our aim was not the reconstruction of Büchner?s fragment rather its re-creation in our own language. We preferred the discovery of the deep currents below the story, the grasping of the hidden essence of it to the narration.?
?We call the performance workers' circus, because we think Woyzeck is a worker: he is the little man, thrown into the world, lonely and defenceless in all his fundamental relations, to God, to the Other and to the society. We call it circus because our aim is to create in the theatre unpredictable moments when everything can happen, like in the circus in the silence after the roll of the drums,? the company says.
The old factory will provide a fitting venue for the occasion ? International Workers? Day ? as well as the piece.
?W-Workers? Circus? will start at 8:00pm on Saturday and Sunday, and at 4:00pm on Monday. The event will also feature question and answer sessions with cultural events organisers and architects about the reutilisation of abandoned industrial sites. The gates to the factory will open at 5:30pm on Saturday and Sunday and at 3:30pm on Monday. The Krétakör ActorsDanceOrchestra will perform on Monday evening.
The Óbuda Gas Factory is located at Gázgyár utca 1-3, in Budapest?s District III. The factory can be reached by bus 34 from the Buda side of Árpád Bridge.
Tickets are available for HUF 2,000 in advance by emailing jegy@kretakor.hu, or for HUF 2,500 at the door. The ticket for the concert will be HUF 1,000.
