The recording, featuring Hungarian András Keller on violin and German soprano Juliane Banse, was released on the ECM New Series label.

Keller collected the award at a gala ceremony in Cannes. "Kurtág is very proud of the album regardless of any prizes, and I am most pleased by that," he said.

A decade earlier, Keller won a MIDEM award for a recording of the Bartók string quartets with his ensemble, the Keller Quartet. Kurtág received special recognition at last year's MIDEM as he celebrated his 80th birthday.

The jury for the MIDEM awards comprises editors of some of the world's leading music publications as well as programme managers for big radio broadcasters. The MIDEM Classical Awards are presented in 15 categories.
