Batta was one of two prize-winners in the "leader" category.
During his first four-year mandate as rector in 2004-2008, Batta successfully faced the challenge of restructuring the school's curriculum and academic structure to fit the 2005 Higher Education Act. Also during the period, the academy introduced its own concert series, the Alma Mater Concerts, established more connections abroad, notably in the United States and China, and broadened its network of sponsors.
Under Batta's leadership, the academy's development programme was awarded HUF 11bn in European Union and state grant money, and the programme was made a "priority project" by the government.
Batta's mandate was renewed in April 2008 by the academy's senate.
