The bust, by the sculptor Katalin Gerő, was a gift of Budapest?s District I to Warsaw?s central Sródmiescie borough.

Before the inauguration, District I mayor Gábor Tamás Nagy signed a sister borough agreement with Sródmiescie mayor Wojciech Bartelski.

The bust is part of an exchange in which District I will get a bust of Fryderyk Chopin to be erected in the Horváth kert park in Buda.

The bust of Chopin, the first in Budapest, is the gift of Alex Szilasi, a pianist, born in Italy but with Hungarian roots, who specialises in the music of Chopin. Szilasi was presented the statue by Polish National Opera director Waldemar Dabrowski, who was in charge of last year?s Chopin bicentennial celebrations.

Dabrowski gave a speech at the inauguration of the Liszt bust. Mayor Nagy also spoke as did chairman of chief sponsor Philips Lighting Polska Bogdan Rogala.

Sculptor Gerő declined to accept an honorarium for the bust, as the bust from Szilasi was also a gift. ?It was a great honour for me, one which I had to accept,? she said.
