Indonesian ambassador Mangasi Sihombing, who is himself a poet, said the initiative by the Hungarian Writers? Association was a milestone in cultural relations between the two countries. It was also a response to the recent publication of the best of Hungarian poetry in Indonesia, he added.

The June issue of Magyar Napló includes works by eight Indonesian poets, including Sihombing, and short stories by four writers. The short story Contract Coolies, by Mochtar Lubis, presents the country?s colonial period; Es Wibowo?s poem is about the magnificent temple of Borobudur; and W.S. Rendra?s poem Jakarta?s Prostitutes Unite! examines contemporary social problems.
The artist László Balogh, one of the few Hungarian experts on Indonesian art, gives a short overview of the field in the publication.
