London Celebrates Centenary of Hungarian Film

Andrew and Kevin Macdonald, grandchildren of Academy Award-winning Hungarian scriptwriter Emeric Pressburger, will open Check the Gate. The programme will kick off with screenings of Géza M. Tóth's animated short Maestro, an Oscar nominee, and Antal Nimród's dark feature film Control. The Hungarian Cultural Centre in London will host a conference of film professionals earlier in the day on the 26th.

The full programme of Check the Gate will include Krisztina Goda's film Just Sex and Nothing Else, Ágnes Kocsis' Fresh Air, György Pálfi's Hukkle, Csaba Bollók's Iszka's Journey, Áron Gauder's animated feature The District and Benedek Fliegauf's film Dealer. Among the shorts to be shown are Zsófia Péterffy's Lover of Pirates, István Komár's Butterfly, Bálint Kenyeres' Before Dawn and Péter Politzer's Silent Night. Kevin MacDonald's documentary about his famous grandfather The Making of an Englishman, a short film by András György Dési and Gábor Móray called Doll No. 639, Kornél Mundruczó's Day After Day and Péter Mészáros' After Rain will also be shown.

 
Film-goers can also see an exhibition of posters for Sir Alexander Korda's films that will open in London during the week.
