The managing director of Kincsem Park, the horse tracks where the concert was originally planned to take place, confirmed the information to MTI.
Lajos Vajto denied press resports according to which the venue had to be changed as a result of protests from horse owners. It was not Kincsem Park that initiated the change and if the concert cannot be moved to Puskas Stadium after all, Kincsem Park will be ready to host the event, he added.
Head of the Hungarian Football Federation Istvan Kisteleki told MTI on Monday that two vitally important world cup matches are planned to be held in the stadium soon after the concert and "after such an event, not even 30 days would be enough to repair the lawn and we would only have nine."
Hungary will play Sweden on September 5 and Portugal on September 9. Kisteleki said two years of work could be ruined if the Madonna show is held at the Puskas Stadium.
The Hungarian Football Federation had similar problems twice in the past. A month after Robbie Williams performed in the stadium on July 20, 2006, the Italian team played a friendly match with Hungary and serious complaints were raised because of the quality of the pitch. A year later, The Rolling Stones had a show in the Puskas Stadium and a European cup match against Norway more than month later had to be moved to another venue.
