The film, made in 2005, shows a single take of a singing bird sitting in front of a dressing room mirror as a mechanical arm prepares him for his grand performance. Tóth said the idea for the film came to him during a consultation with a student at the Moholy-Nagy Art University, where he has taught for 13 years.
The Prix Danube is a biennial event organised by Slovakian Television. This year's festival featured some 300 entries from 39 countries.
Maestro was nominated for an Academy Award this year, but was beat by The Danish Poet.
