Magvető Publishes Esterházy Plays

English

The volume, entitled ?Rubens and the Non-Euclidean Women?, after a piece Esterházy wrote on commission for this year?s Ruhr Triennale, is the author?s second collection of plays. In addition to the title play, it includes the plays ?Let Us Get Rich Together? and ?Affolter, Meyer, Beil (Don Juan, or the Happy Family)?.

Esterházy wrote ?Affolter, Meyer, Beil?, named for the actors who play its three leads, on commission by the playwright Hermann Beil. The rendering of the story of Don Juan was performed to the music of Mozart?s Don Juan in Salzburg in the spring.

Esterházy presents life?s big issues with his characteristic insight and humour in the plays, Magvető says.

Esterházy?s first volume of plays, ?Farewell Symphony?, was published in 1994. New editions came out in 2001 and 2004.
