This year over 100 museums will participate at the event to be held in the National Museum and its park in central Budapest, said Kato Rezi.

The main theme at this year's festival will be the theme of social harmony as set by ICOM, the Paris-based International Council of Museums organisation, as well as photography, she said.

In the museum's grand hall an exhibition showing several images by famed Hungarian-born war photo journalist Robert Capa (1913-1954) will be shown.

Among foreign guests eight museums of the northern Italian town of Reggio Emilia will also present themselves in a group, said Rezi.

Programmes on Saturday and Sunday will include the screening of animated film versions of contemporary poems, concerts, arts and crafts workshops, a "moving image" stage production combining cinema and theatre, as well as costumed guided museum tours.

On Saturday the Museum of the Year Award will be presented to the winner selected out of 7 contending museums from across the country.
