MOME rector Gábor Kopek appointed Wagener honorary professor at a meeting of the school's governing body. The meeting was addressed by Wagener's former teacher Stefan Lengyel, who praised his inventiveness, refined sense for aesthetics and demanding attitude. Lengyel said one of the most important aims for a designer was to maintain tradition and at the same time add a designer's unique touch to his works. This is one of the basic principles of design at Mercedes-Benz, he added.
MOME will launch a vehicle design specialisation as part of its post-graduate programme next year. The school's existing cooperation with Mercedes-Benz has played a big role in the start-up.
Wagener said Mercedes-Benz wants to continue supporting MOME because students represent the future of design. Design is a cornerstone for the company because they develop and strengthen the message of the brand and thus play a crucial role in creating it.
Wagener said he believes a car must be attractive and sensual, embodying continuity and freshness at the same time.
