A work by Mircia Dumitrescu

The works were selected by the artist from a retrospective shown in the Romanian parliament building in Bucharest this May.

Dumitrescu is one of the greatest representatives of classical graphics today, a technical virtuoso who combines classical methods with a contemporary language, said Hungarian art historian Anna Bálványos at the opening of the exhibition. He presents classical subjects, such as nudes or working people, using soft lines that almost cross over into painting, she said.

Dumitrescu, a professor at the Fine Arts Academy in Bucharest, is not unknown to Hungarian art lovers. Last year, he had a joint exhibition with his Hungarian student Botond Részegh at the Romanian Cultural Institute in Budapest, and Life and Literature, Hungary's most important arts journal, printed several of his works. Dumitrescu was also the Romanian guest at a conference tied to the Hungarian Fine Arts Academy's exhibition 100 Graphics - 100 Contemporaries.

The exhibition at the Barabás Villa will run until October 31. Afterward it will move to the Romanian Cultural Institute in Budapest.
