The profile of Hungarian design is rapidly rising as evidenced by the growing number of international prizes Hungarian designers are bringing home. At MOME, students studying vehicle design under faculty head Stefan Lengyel, who teaches in Budapest and in Essen, Germany, show they have a comfortable relationship with technology. It is no surprise that the two prize winners at the exhibition have both designed vehicles, Tibor Bíro an environmentally friendly, but large capacity, urban vehicle, and Zoltán Szász a futuristic Mercedes.
In the service of self-powered vehicles, Balázs Milléte has designed a dream for urban cyclists: highly visible (and very cool-looking) bicycle paths that give directions.
For the catering industry, Katalin Balázs has designed an elegant and ergonomic wine dispenser, and Andrea Dobos has created a chocolate compliment that rests on a wine glass.
Though the furniture designs by the students are admirable, few show a great degree of originality.
Each year's exhibition has at least one design that is sui generis. This year the design was for interactive jewellery by Ádám Bence Kiss.
