The mosque, built in the second half of the 16th century and named after the pasha that governed the province at the time, will reopen on May 22, said Terézia Bardi of Hungary?s National Trust for Monuments.
The dome was repaired to stop leakage and a permanent exhibition on Islamic culture and art was installed, replacing an earlier exhibition on archaeology opened in the 1960s.
The refurbishment cost HUF 20 million.
The mosque?s minaret is still closed to visitors because of its poor condition. It is hoped the minaret, too, will be renovated when the necessary resources become available, Bardi said.
