Munkácsy's The Sleeping Grandpa (1887), which he painted at the Colpach Castle in Luxembourg, was put on the block with a starting price of HUF 50 million and it sold for HUF 180 million. His Woman Pouring Tea (1879) started at HUF 40 million, but sold for HUF 90 million.
An exhibition of Munkácsy's paintings at the Hungarian National Gallery in 2005 attracted a record number of visitors. And at auction, the paintings have fetched the highest prices. One of his paintings, Dusty Road, also sold by the Judit Virág Gallery in 2003, when it was called the Mű-Terem Gallery, holds the record for the highest price ever paid for a painting at auction in Hungary: HUF 220 million. In the same year, the Mű-Terem sold Munkácsy's The Baby's Visitors for HUF 160 million.
