The reopening marks the completion of the modernisation of the museum?s permanent exhibition on the occasion of its 100th anniversary, said undersecretary at the Ministry of Education and Culture Márta Schneider.
The modernisation included not only the refurbishment of the museum?s exhibition spaces, but a rethinking of the way the works are displayed to better reflect their distinctive character, said Museum of Fine Arts director László Baán. Even though great emphasis has been placed on temporary exhibitions lately ? the museum has organised several special exhibitions to mark its centennial and has just opened a show of works by Van Gogh expected to draw more visitors than any other exhibition before it ? the museum?s permanent collection also deserves attention, Baán said.
The Italian Masters collection includes works by Raffaello, Titian, Sebastiano del Piombo and Tintoretto.
The collection is ?one of the museum?s most precious treasures,? Baán said.
