Museum Shows Difficult Lives of Levee Builders

English

Many of the men of Hungary?s Great Plain region supported their families by building levees as well as roads and railways from the 1850s all the way to the 1980s. About half of the men of Csongrád were levee builders in the 1930s.

The exhibition shows the difficult lives of the men, who were accepted neither as peasants nor as labourers. The show is called ?I?m welcome neither in the village nor the town? after a popular song that reflects this.
