English

The exhibition, called S.O.S. Save Our Source, shows the innovative use of these customs and skills in the service of sustainable development. It is part of the Cult-Rural project, established within the framework of the European Commission's Culture 2000 programme, which aims to promote cooperation and networking between rural heritage museums and other organizations; encourage these museums to "open their doors" to transnational joint activities; highlight and document the cultural heritage of European rural regions and demonstrate its links to rural social and economic development and sustainability; raise the awareness of contemporary Europeans and boost local cultural identity and pride, providing an "arena" for intercultural dialogue; improve the skills of professionals to identify, preserve and promote the rural heritage of their region/nation and use it for the benefit of rural development; and attract the younger generation to become involved with and appreciate rural culture.

The exhibition at the Skanzen was prepared with the participation of the Ljusdalsbygdens Museum in Sweden and the Musée des Civilisations de l' Europe et de la Méditerranée in France. It can be seen in the Skanzen Gallery until June 21, 2009.
