Nádasdy Palace Renovation Nearly Complete

English

The palace was built in the Baroque style in 1738, but rebuilt in the Tudor style in 1876. It was used as a barracks for decades under communism. Now the palace is managed by the National Authority for Historic Monuments and the Nádasdy Foundation.

The original stone ornamentation on the palace?s façade was replaced and repairs to the balcony, the drainage system and the roof were made within the framework of the project, said Kálmán Varga of the National Authority for Historic Monuments. The HUF 250 million project was supported in large part by the Norwegian Fund, he added.

So far, about HUF 1.5 billion has been spent for the upkeep and renovation of the palace and its 25-hectare gardens.

The National Authority for Historic Monuments plans an exhibition next year in honour of Erzsébet Zichy, who once lived in the palace.
