The Munkácsy painting, with a starting price of HUF 7 million (EUR 27,000), will be offered on the first day of the auction, to feature old masters and 19th century paintings. Other items of interest on the block on Saturday include German altar pieces from the 15th century, sculptures by Canova and László Marton and a portrait by Dutch master Nicolaes Maes dated 1687. The latter will start at HUF 8.5 million. (EUR 33,000)
The Paál painting, with a starting price of HUF 18 million (EUR 70,000), will go on the block on the auction?s second day, to feature 20th century paintings. Other works by Hungarian artists to be sold are Károly Lotz's ?The Celebration of the Muses and Bacchus?, with a starting price of HUF 19 million (EUR 74,000) and a number of works by Hungarian Fauvists of the Nagybánya school.
On the third day of the auction, bids will be invited for decorative art, including Greek and Roman sculptures, Persian tiles, Chinese porcelain and Transylvanian pewterware.
