The Heart of Europe series, now in its fourth year, involves exchanges of orchestras between former members of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Hungary's National Philharmonic has played at the Rudolfinum in Prague, the Redut in Bratislava, the Musikverein in Vienna and Cankarjev Dom in Ljubljana as part of the series.
Chief director of the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra Géza Kovács, who helped start the exchange programme, said that orchestras in Zagreb and Krakow had expressed interest in joining the series, so it might be expanded.
Austria's Tonkünstler Orchestra conducted by Andrés Orozco-Estrada will play at Budapest's Palace of Arts on February 5 and 6 as part of the Heart of Europe series.
