Alföldi spoke with the artistic director of the Habima -- Israeli National Theatre and presented his plans for cooperation at the residence of the Hungarian ambassador to Israel.
Though no concrete plans were agreed on, Alföldi said Hungary's National Theatre would like to like to invite an Israeli theatre to Budapest for a big international theatre festival in 2010. He said the possibility of cooperation was first discussed with Israel's ambassador to Hungary in Budapest. Since then, contacts have also been established with ambassadors from Russia and Spain. Joint projects are in the planning phases with France, Romania and several other countries too, he added.
Alföldi praised Israel for subsidising student tickets to theatre and other cultural events, noting the practice should be considered by Hungary too.
