New Head Appointed at Hungarian Cultural Centre in London

English

Takács was selected in a tender called in October, following the announcement of Bogyay?s appointment. Takács?s mandate will begin on February 15, 2007.

Hiller said Takács?s application had convinced ministry officials she would be the best suited to continue carrying out cultural diplomacy in London. Her application was one of ten submitted for the post and one of three passed on to the minister by a committee.

?The task is not only about implementing programmes, finishing them and starting new ones, but about establishing links and developing an active network,? Hiller said.

The Hungarian Cultural Centre in London is one of 19 Hungarian cultural institutes around the world, but its task is special because of its location in one of the world?s capitals of culture, Hiller said.

Takács said she would continue her predecessor?s successful over the past eight years as well as explore new demands and opportunities for modernising the centre. Cultural development plays an important role in the economic renewal of regions, therefore Takács said she planned to place strong emphasis on this field.

Already on Takács?s agenda is a plan to learn from the experience of Liverpool, which will carry the European Capital of Culture title in 2008, and share this experience with the Hungarian city of Pécs, which will carry the title in 2010.

Prior to her appointment, Takács worked as member of the board in InterCom International Communication Services.
