New Hungarian Culture Ambassadors Named

The Ambassador or Hungarian Culture is not an acknowledgement in the traditional sense, but more a mandate to represent the nation, said Minister of Education and Culture István Hiller of the titles, which were presented for the third time, bringing the total number of culture ambassadors to 21.

 
Ádám Fischer, the musical director of the Hungarian State Opera, has taken the baton for famous orchestras and opera houses all over the world.
 
György Konrád is among Hungary's best-known authors abroad. As a member of International Pen and chairman of Berlin's Academy of Arts, Konrád has made an extraordinary contribution to Hungary and to better understanding between the peoples of Central Europe, said Hiller.
 
Tamás Vásáry was a child prodigy who played his first concert at the age of eight. He studied under Dohnányi, was an assistant to Kodály, and was a guest conductor for some of the world's best orchestras. The Magyar Radio Symphony Orchestra made Vásáry their conductor after just one concert.
 
 

Kati Zoób is the best known Hungarian clothing designer abroad. She won the Designer of the Year Award in 2005 and was presented the Order of the Knight's Cross of the Republic of Hungary in 2007.

 
György Kurtág, Kati Marton and Gábor Tompa were unable to attend the ceremony and will be presented their titles at a later date.
