I Am Not Your Friend will compete with 15 or 16 other films at the festival. This year's jury will be headed by the French producer Claudie Ossard.
György Pálfi debuted on the international film scene with an ingenious village murder mystery that contained hardly a word of dialogue. He followed up with a film called Taxidermia about the extremes humans will go to that was both revolting and marvellous. Pálfi's new film shows several interconnected stories about the rights and wrongs and relationships that make up the lives of the citizens of Budapest. The film has an improvisational feel and offers a true-to-life glimpse of life in the Hungarian capital in January 2008. I Am Not Your Friend, complemented with a short, also called I Am Not Your Friend, which documents early social networking among some of the capital's kindergartners, premiered at the 40th Hungarian Film Week at the end of January.
The 44th International Film Festival of Karlovy Vary will be held between July 3 and 11. Some of the famous guests that will attend are Milos Forman, whose new film Dobre placená procházka (A Well-paid Walk) will premiere at the festival, Robert de Niro, Jirí Menzel and Alan Rudolph.
