The construction of the theatre will begin next year to replace the current Erkel Ferenc Theatre, said Gordon Bajnai, adding that the first performance could be held there in 2013.
The prestigious State Opera House was opened on September 27 in 1884. It operated the Erkel Theatre, named after composer and conductor Ferenc Erkel (1810-1893).
