Night of Museums Draws Big Crowds

The programme officially launched with a concert by the Budapest Festival Orchestra, under the baton of Iván Fischer, on the stairs of the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest.
 
Inside the museum, visitors could see temporary exhibitions on art photography, the age of Pieter Bruegel and mummies. The museum also hosted a slam poetry competition and performances of French chansons.
 
Long lines formed outside the nearby Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum, home to a rare collection of art Khmer, Vietnamese, Thai and Indonesian art.
 
Visitors to the Hungarian National Gallery guessed the creators of works of art based on clues. They also saw temporary exhibitions of work by Károly Ferenczy and Rippl-Rónai.
 
Among the concerts on the museum?s evening programme was a performance by the jazz pianist Béla Szakcsi Lakatos.
 
The Budapest History Museum screened Mexican tourism and art films.
 
Visitors to the National Széchényi Library got a peak at the institution?s inner workings, including the stacks and book lifts.
 
The Hungarian National Museum and the Museum of Applied Arts focused on the Olympic Games and ?Hungaricums?.
Outside of the capital, the Debrecen University opened its main building to the public.
 
In Szolnok, the Damjanich Museum and the City Gallery welcomed visitors.
 
About 2,000 people participated at Night of Museums events in Szekszárd. Among the most popular were an ?adventure tour? of the Wosinksy Mór Museum and a concert series dubbed ?Wine and Strings?.
