The project, which has been awarded a HUF 218 million grant from the Norwegian Fund, involves the renovation of the palace's façade, the replacement of ornaments, windows and doors, and roof repairs, said communications director of VÁTI Hungarian Regional and Urban Development Nonprofit Company Katalin Répai.
The castle was built in the Baroque style in 1738, but rebuilt in the Tudor style in 1876. It was used as a barracks for decades under communism. Now the palace is managed by the National Authority for Historic Monuments and the Nádasdy Foundation.
Since 1994, the foundation has spent nearly HUF 100 million to renovate the palace, the surrounding park and other buildings on the site, but much work is still to be done.
The Nádasdy Academy has been set up by the foundation to support environmental protection and the arts. The castle hosts symposiums, exhibitions and other events from early summer to autumn.
