District VIII, or ?Joseph Town?, earlier ?synonymous with theft and prostitution? has become ?a magnet for Budapest?s trendy bohemians, mixing soulful chic and shabby bourgeois,? Alex Crevar writes in the piece.

Crevar recommends visits to the Hungarian National Museum, the Budapest Jazz Club, APA Cuka, and the Zappa Caffe and Lumen Gallery and Café on Mikszáth Kálmán Square. In the district?s eastern side, where one may still find some ?nefarious behaviour?, he recommends Café Csiga, ?a trendy oasis with plank floors and wall-to-wall artwork that draws an artsy lot quickly forgetting that this was once the other side of the tracks.?
