Huang Men-keng, a young man from Zhuji, in the province of Zhejiang, was greeted by Deputy Commissioner Richárd Mohr and Deputy Director of the pavilion Katalin Szöllősi.
The pavilion will soon mark Hungary?s August 20th national holiday with open-air events during the day and an evening gala featuring about a hundred Hungarian performers.
In the two weeks to follow, Shanghai will host a series of events organised by Art Forum Hungary.
At the centre of the Hungarian Pavilion is the Gömböc (pronounced 'goemboets'), a self-righting object created by two Hungarian inventors. The Gömböc rights itself when in stable equilibrium, much like a roly-poly toy, but because of its shape, not because of its weight. The Gömböc is thus the first known homogenous object with one stable and one unstable equilibrium point.
