Opera Europa Brings Autumn Conference to Budapest

English

The conference will address the question of how to make opera in Central Europe today, said Opera Europa head Nicholas Payne. "How do you balance the sometimes conflicting demands of ballet and opera in a theatre which serves both to its public? What are the respective advantages and disadvantages of the repertoire and stagione systems of performance? In seeking to strike the best balance, are you motivated by a desire to improve artistic quality or budgetary finances? Do you find that your wish to expand your artistic horizons can be thwarted by the innate conservatism of your traditional audience?"

The conference will also cover specialist issues, such as improving marketing, fundraising, technical and business practices.

Opera Europa currently serves 110 member companies from 33 different countries. Next year, the organisation will hold its spring conference in Rotterdam and its autumn conference in Munich.
