Paola Navone one of the most exciting figures in contemporary design, will arrive in Budapest on October 8 to give a talk at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design.
?A real traveller and a cosmopolitan to the core, she is at home in Europe and several parts of East Asia, while her work is imbibed by different cultures, dynamic forms and female softness,? Design Week?s organisers say on their website.
Navone graduated with a degree in architecture, but has worked as a designer of objects, an interior designer, a decorator and a curator. In the 1970s, she worked alongside Alessandro Mendini, one of the guiding members of the Memphis group. In the 80s, Navone did work for partners such as Abet Laminati, Alessi and Knoll International. Since 1985, she has travelled often to Asia on assignments from Unido and the World Bank. Her travels have had a profound effect on her work.
Navone raised the profile of her work even further in the 90s, designing business interiors, giving companies new looks and even making jewellery. Among her partners are Driade and Gervasoni and Baxter.
Navone travelled to Budapest many times in the 90s to visit a writer friend. One of the products of her time in the Hungarian capital is the Baxter Budapest Sofa.
