More than a hundred films are on the Moveast programme, including ones made by directors from Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia and Austria.
The 37 films in the competition are all by first-time directors who made their debuts in 2006. The Hungarian directors competing are Árpad Bogdán with Happy New Life, Gyula Nemes with My One and Onlies and Tibor Szemző with A Guest of Life.
The films will be judged by a jury of professionals from around the world, including the Hungarian-born Oscar-winning director-cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond. The winner will be awarded the Benjámin Arany Prize and a EUR 10,000 check.
For the first time in Hungary, the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) will also present an award.
More than 50 informational films will be shown at Moveast, all made in countries in the region in 2006. The festival's organisers selected the films with the assistance of the Hungarian National Film Archive and Budapest's Polish Institute. The film will be shown in original language with English subtitles.
In addition to the screening of Koltai's latest films, new films by Ferenc Török (Overnight) and György Szomjas (Nap Street Boys) will be shown.
Many other events are planned for Moveast. As part of the "Hungarian Masters of Film" series, Koltai and Zsigmond will participate at a talk with the cinematographers Elemér Ragályi and Ferenc Grunwalsky. For the entire run of the festival, Pécs's Jókai Square will be transformed into an outdoor theatre for animated films. And a chance or film writers and producers to meet and share ideas will be provided within the framework of the Fade In Central Europe Pitch Forum, a follow-up to last year's successful Film Critics Workshop, organised by the chairman of the Hungarian Association of Film Critics György Báron.
The festival will also provide the backdrop for annual general meetings of both of Hungary's producers associations.
