Pécs Hosts Symposium on Keyboard Improvisation

Improvisatio - Creatio International Symposium in Memoriam Ferenc Liszt, will take place between September 5 and 12. It offers programmes for classical piano, organ and jazz piano students interested in improvisation at the beginner, intermediate and advanced level, as well as to academic musicians, teachers and performers. It will also feature a master course in improvisation and an improvisation competition in classical piano, organ and various jazz styles.

The master courses will be run by jury members Mária Apagyi, a teacher from the Martyn Ferenc Art Free School of Pécs; Károly Binder, a pianist, composer and department head teacher at the Liszt Academy of Music; Rob van Kreeveld, a composer,jazz pianist and former teacher of the conservatories in Rotterdam and Amsterdam; Csaba Király, a pianist and organist, and teacher at the Pécs University; and Thierry Escaich, an organist, composer and organ teacher at the Conservatory in Paris.
 
During the symposium, the participants and the teachers of the master courses as well as invited performers will give improvisation concerts in the city.  
 
A competition will close the week with winners taking a cash prize of EUR 2,000 in each category. The awards ceremony will be broadcast on public radio.
 
The symposium is being jointly organised with the Hungarofest Klassz Music Bureau.
