Woodiez front man Gergely Kapitány is unconcerned about following the path of other now well known acts that have come from Pécs.
"True, this city has given quite a few big names to music, but this is rather an inspiration," he said. "Pécs has a very active amateur music scene, and plenty of good music can rise to the surface. Thanks to local secondary school and university students, audiences also abound," he added.
Woodiez formed in the summer of 2008, but have already launched their first album, which they recorded in the winter.
"We would rehearse daily at the time, and the songs were born practically at the same time as we played in the studio. Whatever we rehearsed in the evening, we would take to the studio the next day," said singer-guitarist Kapitány.
The band released their debut album on CD and on the internet.
"Our first recordings were uploaded to the internet and we received regular reactions to these, which we would take into consideration when shaping our new songs," Kapitány said. "Perhaps it was thanks to this that news about the group spread in the city and when we played our first live show to present the album, several hundred people showed up instead of the few friends we originally expected. The news spread and, fortunately, they liked us."
"It would be good to play at festivals in addition to clubs," Kapitány said. "It's time for a bigger audience to get to know us live. We have sent our material to András Lovasi [of Kispál és a Borz] who helps newcomers he thinks have talent," he added.
