Pécs to Host Choir Festival in August

English

The mission of Pécs Cantat is "to show our values on a local, national and international level through music" with the involvement of amateur and professional choirs and singers, the festival organisers say.

The festival will be preceded by two workshops. The first, to take place on April 8-11, will give choir directors the chance to better learn the works of Bartók and Kodály, as well as of Ferenc Erkel and Franz Liszt. Kurt Dlouhy, a professor at the Anton Bruckner Music Academy in Linz, will bring his own choir to the workshop where they will perform works by Bruckner. The workshop will finish with a gala concert in the Bartók Hall of the Palatinus Hotel.

The second workshop, to be hosted by the Mixed Choir of the Reformed College of Pécs, will start on August 10. Among the guests at the workshop will be the Magnifcat Mixed Choir from the Hungarian city of Tokaj, the Tennessee Highland Youth Ensemble and the Cluj Reformed College Chorus.
