Pécs to Host East-West Passage September 19-21

English

This year's festival - the second - will feature eleven bands from Hungary and abroad. On the programme are the brass band Fanfare Ciocarlia from Moldavia, which has toured in more than 50 countries over the year; the Bulgarian clarinetist Ivo Papasov, who won the BBC World Music Award in 2005; the Macedonian Roma singer Esma Redzepova; and the Yakaza Ensemble from Turkey. Among the Hungarian performers at the festival are Besh o droM, Balkán Fanatic and CimbaliBand.

The festival is part of Pécs's preparations to take the European Capital of Culture title in 2010. It aims to highlight the city's role as a bridge between the Balkans and the West.
