Performances at 2006 POSZT Theatre Convention Announced

Each year POSZT showcases the best and the newest theatre productions in Hungary for a week in the historic city of Pécs in southwest Hungary. This year?s gathering will be held from June 8 to 17.

This year?s performances were selected from among 140 productions reviewed by actor András Márton.

The Csiky Gergely Theatre (Kaposvár) will present two performances: Michael Frayn's "Noises Off", directed by János Mohácsi, and Ernő Szép's "Fire Extinguisher", directed by Gabriella Keresztény Molnár.

The Örkény Theatre (Budapest) will put on Roland Schimmelpfennig's "Woman From the Past", directed by Tamás Ascher.

The Katona József Theatre (Budapest) will present William Shakespeare's "Troilus and Cressida", directed by Silviu Purcărete.

The Vörösmarty Theatre (Székesfehérvár) will stage Vörösmarty's "Csongor and Tünde" directed by Vladislav Troitskiy.

The National Theatre (Miskolc) will show Paolo Magelli, Alexander Balanescu, and Željka Udovičić's "Goodbye Europe, Europe Goodbye", directed by Paolo Magelli.

The Új Színház (Budapest) will present Line Knutzon's "Time Is Close", directed by Attila Vidnyánszky.

The Third Theatre (Pécs) will perform János Háy's "Géza Kid", directed by János Vincze.

The State Hungarian Theatre (Kolozsvár) will put on Georg Büchner's "Woyzeck", directed by Mihai Măniuţi.

The Bárka Theatre (Budapest) will show Hölderlin's "Empedocles", directed by Zoltán Balázs.

The Budapest Chamber Theatre will perform Jean Anouilh's "Medeia", directed by Victor Ioan Frunză .

The Móricz Zsigmond Theatre (Nyíregyháza) will stage Manuel Buno's "Estrade Shock", directed by Viktor Bodó.

Béla Pintér and his troupe from Budapest will present "My Mother's Nose", written and directed by Pintér.

The Krétakör Theatre and the Thália Theatre (Budapest) will together stage Henrik Ibsen's "Peer Gynt".

POSZT has a budget of HUF 180m, including HUF 70m from the Ministry of Culture and HUF 70m from the local council of Pécs. Ticket sales and sponsorship fees are expected to cover the rest of the convention?s expenses. Tickets for the event will go on sale from May 9.

The convention attracts some 50,000 actors and theatregoers each year. Most of the performances are quickly sold out.
