The great footballer Ferenc Puskás in the film Ferenc Puskás: A Legend Comes Alive

A year ago, the film's producer Ádám Neményi told the website FigyelőNet that Hungarian director Nimród Antal, who made a name for himself with Kontroll and recently debuted his first Hollywood production Vacancy, had the best chance to direct. Antal reciprocated his interest in the project, but noted that much depended on the script and the timing.

Now Neményi has told Filmhu that Rudolf will direct the film, defending his choice by noting that the director is familiar with his subject - Rudolf was once a promising young player for the Vasas Sport Club's junior football team - and has a deep respect for Puskás.

Neményi added that a foreign co-director could be brought in to assist Rudolf, depending on what the co-producers of the film decide.

The film is set to premiere in 2009.
