Petrushka Performance to Feature Puppets

English

The special puppet performance was inspired by Stravinsky's remark to friends in 1910 that he composed Petrushka with the image of a puppet in mind. Petrushka has been a stock character of Russian folk puppetry for hundreds of years.

The puppet performance was adapted by Dezső Szilágyi. The director is Kató Szőnyi and the puppet designer is Iván Koós.

In addition to Petrushka, the National Philharmonic Orchestra will play Tchaikovsky's The Tempest and Bartók's Piano Concerto No. 1 with soloist Dezső Ránki. The concert will be conducted by Zoltán Kocsis.
