Philadelphia Orchestra to give concert in Budapest

The programme will be Beethoven's Overture to Egmont, Schubert's "Great" Symphony in C major under the baton of Christoph Eschenbach, and the rarely played Violin Concerto by Sibelius. The piece that Sibelius offered to Hungarian violinist Ferenc Vecsey, will be performed by the  Greek Leonidas Kavakos.

Founded in 1900, the orchestra is one of the world's leading orchestras. Its music director from 1936 for 44 years was Hungarian-born conductor-violinist Eugene Ormandy. Ormandy conducted 100 to 180 concerts each year in Philadelphia.
