Plaque Commemorates Hungarians Imprisoned in Yedikule

"To the memory of Bálint Török, Gergely Bornemissza, István Majlád, Pál Béldi and all of the Hungarians who were imprisoned far from their home in the Fortress of Seven Towers in the 16th to 17th centuries," the plaque reads in Hungarian, English and Turkish.

The plaque was placed by the Association for the Remembrance of Hungarians Abroad and the Bornemissza family with the support of the National Civil Fund Programme.
 
Yedikule Museum director Aykut Aki said many important foreigners as well as Turks had been imprisoned in the fortress.
 
The fortress is well known in Hungary from its role in Géza Gárdonyi's famous novel about the siege of Eger The Stars of Eger.
