Though little is known about the seller of the paintings, other than they come from a noble family that has seen better days, the collection is special because most similar works of such value have been taken out of the country over the past 40 years.

Among the other works that are sure to attract attention at the auction are two large-scale paintings from France that the gallery restored before putting them on the block: Finding the Dead Body of Dareios by Antonio Zanchi and Battling Hounds With Piker by Philipp Peter Rosa will each go on the block with a reserve price of HUF 5.5 million.

Bidding for some rare study sketches by Pál Merse Szinyei will start at HUF 1 million. A double-sided pastel showing portraits of two women has a reserve price of HUF 17 million, and another pastel by József Rippl Rónai called Woman With White Gloves - one of two works by the artist at the auction -has a reserve price of HUF 12 million.
