László Sólyom watched a production based on ethnic clashes that took place in Targu Mures on March 19 and 20, 1990. Tessék, poftiti! - 20/20, directed by Gianina Carburnariu, is an ?anti-historical? drama that attempts to show, with the tools of the theatre, Romanian and Hungarian culture side by side, bilingualism and the conflict that arose from this in Targu Mures.
In the absence of a theatre piece about the events, the Yorick Studio did its own research, seeking out more than 50 people who were part of the clashes or affected by them. Talks with these people became the starting point for the play. The title of the play refers to the date on which the clashes took place and their 20th anniversary, as well as the measure for perfect vision, as the troupe believes the topic has to be seen in order for people to discuss it later, be it in their mother tongue of Romanian or Hungarian.
Kisvarda Mayor Albert Oláh greeted the president at the city?s House of Arts, and Mr Sólyom later met with the festival jury. After the performance, the president met with the five Hungarian and five Romanian actors in the piece.
Twenty-one Hungarian language theatre companies from Serbia, Slovakia, Romania and Ukraine are participating at the festival in Kisvarda on June 18-26.
