Prima Primissima Awards Revamped to Attract More Diverse Pool of Applicants

English

The awards, established in 2003 by Sándor Demján, the head of Trigránit, one of the region?s biggest construction companies, and by the National Employers' Association (VOSZ), will feature a new category, ?Hungarian Sport?, and the award for electronic press would be merged into the ?Hungarian Press? category. Also, political journalism will no longer be eligible for the award, said Miklós Szinetár, a member of the award committee. He added that the committee did not seek to exclude a worldview from the awards, but it did seek to exclude writing about day-to-day politics.

Later, there are plans to set up a ?Youth? category, recognising young talent, said Sándor Csányi, who heads the award committee.

Hungarian citizens and Hungarian-based organisations are eligible for the award. Nominations for this year?s award must be submitted by July 31.

Regional winners will be presented with their awards in 18 Hungarian counties between October 1 and November 15, and country winners will be presented with their awards at a gala ceremony in Budapest?s Palace of Arts on December 8.

Winners in each of the categories will receive a cash award of EUR 50,000 and a special statue made by the famous Zsolnay porcelain factory.

As before, the awards will also feature an audience favourite category. Votes for candidates may be submitted by telephone or the internet. The winner in this category will also receive EUR 50,000 and a special crystal statue made by Ajkai Kristály.

The award programme?s HUF 2 billion-plus budget ensures Prima Primissima winners for at least another ten years.
